I think most of the negative reviews are due to user error or actual faulty parts. But if you read the instructions carefully, and be mindful about which way the holes go, then it's relatively easy to put together. There are some gaps between the wood but they are so minuscule that it's hardly noticeable. Also read the actual measurements so you know what you're getting. We loved the size for our couch. It's in between our couch and the wall so it's very stable. But if you leave it on it's own, stability depends. It does have wall mounts though so it won't fall over. We ended up getting two to match the length of our couch. The usb ports charge our phones pretty good, but we also have fast chargers. The comfort level exceeded expectations.
