I bought this for my teenage son. It's nice quality, easy to put together and he really likes it! The comfort level exceeded expectations. Looks even better in person.
I was having problems with thermal shutdowns and noticed that my jury-rigged configuration had frozen up and no longer was removing any heat from the cabinet. The computer case itself was always hot to the touch even with the jury-rigged setup. I decided then and there to do it right and install these fans. It was the best thing I ever did. My computer no longer has thermal overload shutdowns even when the temperature in the house reaches over 90 degrees F.
I do wish that some sort of matching, rectangular, add-on metal plates that fit around the fans and thermostat, and could be bolted on using the existing bolts and nuts in the package, were available for the inside of the cabinet to help hide what was done from the inside and form a good seal (it is very difficult to cut fiberboard with hand tools and have it look even close to nice afterward) but it doesn't matter all that much as most of the time the cabinet is closed, the outside of the not-so-nice cutting is hidden by the fans and programmable thermostat, and people won't see my ineptitude with hand tools on fiberboard (although I am aware of it).
Very happy with the purchase and with the thermostat option. It was great when I had a power outage and the thermostat still held onto my settings in spite of it. Looks nice on the outside and isn't very loud at all, even at full. People who have seen the back of my desk have remarked that it looked like the desk came with the fans installed at the factory. Only I know differently if I don't say anything. Five stars even without the option to cover up my misdeeds with hand tools on the inside. I'm happy and my computer also is happy. Win-win all around! Will definitely buy another set from this company should I ever need them again. The comfort level exceeded expectations.
I purchased this product in order to organize my DirecTV equipment and make it look nicer since the installer basically left it all hanging from the rafters in my basement. I did not use any official Leviton "components" (or stand-offs) with this enclosure other than the Leviton outlet but rather screwed my DirecTV components directly to the inside using sheet metal screws. To make room behind it for the screws as well as bring the depth even with my circuit breaker panel, I first mounted 2x4s to the wall then mounted this enclosure to the 2x4s as this is how my circuit breaker panel was mounted. The idea being that if I ever finish the basement it will all be flush and even, although I could also just remount it between studs as it is optionally designed to do.
I wasn't sure if this particular enclosure (28") would be too big for my needs, but after some measuring and planning I figured it should work pretty well, and after actually mounting everything into it, it did work out perfectly in my opinion. It wasn't too big, but big enough that everything isn't all crammed into it, which will make it easier to swap components if I ever need to.
If anyone is considering using something like this to mount their DirecTV equipment into, then I'd recommend it. The equipment I mounted into it was:
SWiM 16 module and power adapter (PI)
2 8-way splitters
DECA BB adapter (CCK) and power adapter
While I didn't purchase it yet, I plan to eventually install the hinged cover on this unit. Initially, due to the position of the outlet placement at the bottom of this enclosure and the design of the DECA BB power adapter, there would be no way to install a cover because the power adapter stuck out the front a little. However, this problem was solved by using one of those 6-outlet adapters that plugs into a standard dual outlet. This allowed me to offset the BB power adapter towards the inside just enough to be able to mount a cover when I decide to do so.
It's a bit pricey, but the quality is unmistakable. It really is a nice looking enclosure and I feel that it has many great uses for organizing just about any kind of TV/phone/internet/alarm components you could think of. The comfort level exceeded expectations. Assembly was straightforward.
