I was going to try to build something to do what this device does, but it would have been a fiddly, annoying task and probably would have cost me at least as much, if not more than this does. When I found this I decided not to waste my time with an ugly solution.
Overall this does exactly what it's supposed to. I do wish it had a larger hysteresis so the fan wouldn't cycle on and off quite as often, but that's just personal preference and would possibly be a problem for applications different than mine.
I also wish it had an indicator light to show me when it has powered the fan, which is nearly silent and not in an easy to see location. The comfort level exceeded expectations.
